Amy Sedaris
American actress, author, and comedienne Amy Sedaris may be best known for playing Jerri Blank on Strangers With Candy: The Complete Series, but she runs a cupcake and cheese ball business out of her home kitchen too.
Born in Endicott, New York, she grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina with her brother, author, humorist, and playwright David Sedaris. Currently living in Greenwich Village, New York City, Sedaris shares her home with her Mini Rex rabbit Dusty and remains very involved with the House Rabbit Society.
A former member of Chicago–based comedy troupes Second City and Annoyance Theatre, her first major foray into television began in 1995 with the Comedy Central sketch show Exit 57 alongside Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello. Sedaris next appeared in the cult favorite TV series Strangers With Candy: The Complete Series as drug–addled runaway Jerri Blank, who restarts high school at 46–years–old. Sedaris based Blank off her own impression of 1970s motivational speaker Florrie Fisher. In addition to having small roles in the movies Elf, School of Rock, and Snow Angels, she reprised her role as Jerri Blank in the 2006 film adaptation.
Sedaris regularly works the talk show circuit, so much so that she has a number of running gags with the hosts. When she isn't on the Late Show with David Letterman talking about her imaginary boyfriend Ricky's murder and subsequent haunting, she's making cheese balls on The Martha Stewart Show.
Ever the queen of collaboration, Sedaris co–authored the text–and–picture novel Wigfield (2003) with Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert. Along with her brother David Sedaris, Amy has also co–authored several plays under the name "The Talent Family": Stump the Host (1993), Stitches (1994), One Woman Shoe (1995), Incident at Cobblers Knob (1997), and The Little Frieda Mysteries.
