Synopsis

An amateur cage fighter by night, Paul's been dumped by his girlfriend, who he unfortunately has to see at work every day. He's verbally and physically abused by his best friend, who exploits the secret crush Paul has on him. Eventually, Paul shifts gears and the venting of his frustrations inside the cage becomes a private contest to test the limits of his endurance. Paul begins to confuse sex and violence and experiments with gay S/M. Spending time on the internet, Paul's prowling leads him to fall victim to a predator who uses an online dating site to lure his victims deep into the woods. The story builds to an intense climax as Paul is chased through the woods and rain - his hands bound behind his back, at the mercy of nature - ending in the legendary Shanghai Tunnels beneath the streets of Portland.

Bloodlust is an atmospheric, visually striking send-up of the classic 'giallo' horror films of the late 70s and early 80s. It uses the genre as a vehicle by which to contemplate the relationship between sex and violence. It moves from drama to thriller, and then to horror. It offers a subtle satire of (and genuine reverence for) both the medium and message it delivers. Review

When a bi-curious young boxer named Paul starts taking an interest in masochism, he starts descending further down the rabbit hole - engaging in violent, anonymous gay sex. Soon, however, he finds himself in over his head. He meets a sexy, macho hook-up who, unbeknownst to Paul, wants more than just a one-night stand. Paul finds himself held captive in the woods, at the mercy of a madman.

Though it might not be for the squeamish, this potent, low-budget thriller, in the vein of Anonymous and Criminal Lovers, delivers sex and shocks in equal measure - and the cast of trim, beautiful boys is certainly easy on the eyes.

I have no idea what I just saw. Is this a gay movie or a straight movie, a drama or a comedy or horror movie or what? Is this actually an old movie? Very weird, but kinda cool.

Honestly, for at least a couple years now I've seen things written about this movie acting like it's the greatest and hottest gay movie ever made ,or just a dull indie cheapie that somehow manages to piss people off. Having seen it, I don't really understand why people seem to love or hate this movie so much. It's no doubt a grainy low budget movie, but its made to look like an old horror movie. But some of the visuals are very nice, and the guys are certainly hot. If you like old horror movies like SUSPIRIA and want to see what one would have been like if it were gay (or if FIGHT CLUB was just OPEN about being homoerotic) then you should enjoy this movie. I think it's good, just not mind-blowing

Bloodlust is an homage to the Italian horror films of the late 70s, and any classic horror buff will love this modern,gay spin on the genre. The look and feel of the movie bring the classics back to life and play up the gay subtext of action films. It's also a really funny take on True Blood, twilight and other gay-baiting horror. It's like the drive-in or late night gay horror film you always hoped for growing up.

Some early online reviews called this 'Fight Club but edgier'. Well, it IS and it ISN'T. Lots of hot guys get off pounding on each other, but the tone is also a lot quieter and more atmospheric. Between the colorful, retro visuals and the undertones of satire, it reminds me more of BLUE VELVET. The way it mimics old 70s movies is both frustrating and faithful- down to the heavy scoring, the acting style and the way some scenes seem designed solely as a buildup to a particular image. overall, however, it's a very original and entertaining movie- and anyone turned on by guys fighting will enjoy it a great deal.

Perfectly imitates the late 70s horror films with its pretty-but-grimy look, adding the element of homoerotic violence and a cast of buff guys instead of buxom ladies. Anyone critical of the 'giallo' look and feel will enjoy the sequel this winter
