Synopsis

Review

Claudio (Trabacchi) is a handsome, anal-compulsive, Italian banker whose life has always been one of routine. HIV-positive, he takes his daily medications, goes to the gym, checks up on his sister (Rametta), and prepares to move to Milan with his boyfriend Dario (Bechini). Always one to keep everything under control, Claudio's life changes dramatically when he connects with the irresistible Andrea (Salerno), a gorgeous blonde waiter. Claudio's memory of his previous encounter with Andrea is so potent it "stayed inside of him for days."

As these two men begin a hot and heavy affair, filled with passionate kissing and unsafe sex, Andrea admits that he has little concern about Claudio's HIV status. This unrestricted love liberates the cautious Claudio, and soon he forsakes his job, his relationship with Dario, and his meds for the new life Andrea offers him -- one that exists without fear.

Director Laura Muscardin has crafted a heartfelt and affecting character study, and she has coaxed a remarkable performance from Trabacchi. Days is an absorbing, uplifting drama about the vulnerability of life and the incredible power of love. (Italian with English subtitles)

This a story of many kinds of love with HIV/AIDS in the middle. This film is truly an emotional roller coaster of ups and down with a Shakespean tragic ending.

(((1))) Plot/storyline have been much discussed in earlier reviews here. And, yes, this is a film about "living with AIDs," how it can in some ways "robotize" one's behavior, cut one off and harden one in his/her interactions with others.....and Trabacchi (as Claudio) is excellent in showing us every facet of just such a "throwaway" man (for in the end he does just that). However, I am more interested in another of the players.........the one who shoves in our faces the purity and certainty of simple love: Salerno (as Andrea). He gives such a pure performance that we come face to face with a love so strong that it overpowers any thought of self-danger.......so strong that it overpowers wisdom and any sense of self-preservation. (((2))) Practically every other review and comment seems to focus on Trabacchi, yet never in memory have I encountered a male performer who can telegraph the emotion of love more intensely than Salerno; his eyes seem to be that proverbial door to the soul. Again, never have I seen pure love transmitted more powerfully than through this man's eyes and facial expressions (would that many of us ever have been able to have had a love such as his). What he is feeling is projected so strongly that your need is to reach through the screen, grab, and tightly hold him. (((3))) I guess I will never be able to understand Italian directors, producers and viewers......for Salerno's film work after this production seems to be nonexistent. How can that be? Yet Trabacchi's follow-on films are numerous, and while his performance is excellent, he displays nowhere near the emotional power radiated by Salerno (should someone admit to a "crush" in here, somewhere?). (((4))) So, if you want to see a film about a man none will consider smart, yet a man who would give you unflinching love that you would never doubt, then see "Days." And see the love that Claudio handled disastrously............how would you?

Not easy to make sense of

I saw it dubbed on "InDemand" TV. Never a good way to see a movie. Even so, the characters and their behavior don't seem believable at all. A few touching moments, but not really worth the time to watch it

Great romantic, erotic, love ... sad movie

Great movie ... This movie might represent very well what the gay community is going through. Some men couples (not all them) lives an open relationship ... within this movie it showed how a couple can break up quickly with the passion,love for an one night stand append ... The actors were great ...
