Chronicled in The Gumshoe, The Witch, and the Virtual Corpse, 2034 was a rough year for Drew Parker. His car broke down, his rent went up, and his partner was kidnapped by a revenge*ndash;crazed performance artist. And to top it off, one of Drew's clients was tossed from a skyscraper—after being stripped naked, smeared in human fat, and painted with occult symbols.
So far, 2035 isn't shaping up to be much better for our Gumshoe Gorilla.
What started off as a simple case involving a deaf girl and her cheating boyfriend is getting complicated. And it doesn't help that the boyfriend is one of five identical actors cloned from the frozen corpse of a dead movie star.
And besides, Drew has his own problem to deal with. A personal matter involving a male prostitute, a privatized version of the KGB, and a vampire sex cult.
Well at least his Wiccan partner, Jen, is back to help him out. If he can just get her to cut back on the practical jokes.
...and the dating advice.
"Picking up where the first novel leaves off, Gumshoe Gorilla manages to maintain the frenetic pacing and attitudes of the first novel while adding a serious undercurrent of mature introspection about the nature of relationships, particularly with one's parents. While reading the first "Gumshoe" book will provide a good foundation, Gumshoe Gorilla can be enjoyed without it.
Hartman's "Gumshow" novels are set in a near future Atlanta. In this hear future, cultural splintering has been taken to its next logical step with almost completely ghetto–ized subcommunities existing side by side. Gay community members eat at gay restaurants, live in gay districts, read gay newspapers, watch gay news—while members of the Christian Alliance coexist in a culture submerged in only Christian information...
In Gumshoe Gorilla, Drew and Jen are called upon to unravel a mystery surrounding a set of genetically engineered quintuplets who happen to be Hollywood stars. To complicate matters Drew races to unravel a private mystery involving Daniel's new boyfriend. The mysteries unravel piece by piece, with both brilliant deduction and occasional dumb luck on the part of Drew and Jen...."
