Synopsis

A refreshing voice has joined the genre of fiction for young gay adults. Perry Moore's newest novel tackles several issues facing a young man on the verge of adulthood, dealing with profound differences in a not too welcoming world.

Thom is a star on the basketball team and the son of superheroes. His father Hal has fallen from grace, disfigured from a tragic accident and ostracized by the public he saved. His gardenia loving mother disappeared long ago under mysterious circumstances.

Thom's bright future becomes questionable as he starts to discover his own superpowers and his confusing sexual attraction to photogenic superhero, Uberman. Despite his love for his father he keeps these secrets and doesn't tell him when he is given the opportunity to try out for the "League". Surrounded by the heroes he has long admired his powers strengthen and he learns how to use them. Along with a team of misfits including Typhoid Larry (ability to make people sick), Scarlett (control of fire), and Ruth (ability to see the future) he must prove himself worthy of the first string of superheroes and live up to his parents' legacy.

Best book I ever read that fuses the superhero culture with the growing pains of being a gay teen. Trust me when I say you'll laugh and cry. You won't help but be touched by Thom plight and the heroes around him. Highly recommended.

A definate recommended read

This is the story of a boy who learns that he has more than one secret to hide. Not only is trying to hide is sexuality but also his developing supernatural powers from his father. It's a great book, and I was very pleased to see a gay superhero as the protagonist in a story. I hope this author isn't done.

Hey everyone, if you are a fan of comics, the show Heroes, X-Men etc, you will love this book. Even if you aren't you will still like the book. But it is so nice to see a gay superhero take center stage. But like Spider-man and Buffy, just because you have power, does not mean that your life is a party. 4 stars from me about the book Hero. Enjoy.
