Kenneth Anger
One of the wildest (and earliest) experimental gay filmmakers, Kenneth Anger’s trippy body of work (consisting entirely of short films) featured gritty violence, nudity, homoeroticism and a preoccupation with the occult that established him far ahead of his time and caused great controversy (and even the confiscation of certain films). A major influence on directors Martin Scorsese, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, David Lynch and even Andy Warhol, don’t miss The Films of Kenneth Anger: Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 for great examples of his genius.
