When Kyle Champlain's grandmother, Molly, passes away, he returns to Wetlake, Canada, to settle her estate. Kyle spent his summers in Wetlake as a child, and now he has the chance to renew his acquaintance with some old friends, including Ryan Summers, before going home to Chicago. But when Kyle tries to pressure Ryan into a business decision, their renewed friendship—and any possible attraction—is almost immediately on the rocks.
As Kyle begins to deliver the personalized bequests from Molly's will, he meets an odd assortment of people from all walks of life and realizes he has a lot to learn about living and love. But he’ll have to fight his parents, suspicious beneficiaries, and Ryan’s fears if he plans to stay in Wetlake.
In Lost Treasure, Kate Sherwood delivers a heartfelt story of lost love, nostalgia and forgiveness. Thirteen years ago, Kyle was Casey to the folks in Wetlake, Canada. He spent his summers with his grandmother and spent most of his time with his best friend Ryan. Now he’s Kyle, and he returns to Wetlake to close out his grandmother’s estate. First he has to deal with the past – including the feelings that he had for Ryan and the loss of his relationship with his grandmother.
His grandmother has him deliver bequests to some of the town folks, and it seems as if she had a plan for Kyle, just as she used to when he was younger. Dealing with Ryan, his feelings that have resurfaced, and trying to tie up loose ends don’t go as smoothly and efficiently as he would like. He learns that the reason for the loss of his relationship with his grandmother was not for the reasons he thought, and he must also deal with that. What he does find is strength, love and a family that holds true meaning for him, even after he has lost part of his own in his grandmother’s death.
I think that this is a keeper, a must read and a must have for your personal library. While it is easy to figure out the ending, there are a number of plot twists that make you really appreciate the story. It is heartwarming and full of romance. Sherwood does an excellent job in describing the imagery of the setting, which really makes you feel as if you are on the beach with Ryan and Kyle, and helping Sean with his chores. The characters also add an element of richness to the plotline.
