Geoff is in the city, living the gay life to the hilt, when his father's death convinces him to return to the family farm. Discovering a young Amish man asleep in his barn, Geoff learns that Eli is spending a year away from the community before accepting baptism into the church. Despite their mutual attraction, Geoff is determined not to become involved with him, but Eli has discovered that Geoff shares his feelings and begins to court him, neatly capturing first Geoff's attention and then his heart.
Their budding relationship is threatened by closed-minded, gossipy relatives and the society at large, a whole new world to Eli, and he must decide whether to return to the community, his family, and the world and future he knows or to stay with Geoff and have faith in the power of love.
Andrew Grey has another classic on his hands with Love Means… No Shame.
In this story, Grey introduces us to Geoff and Eli. Two very different men from two very different backgrounds and cultures. Geoff grew up with two Dads. Eli grew up in a culture that frowns upon same sex relationships. Can Geoff and Eli build a relationship with what they each bring to the table? What about their differing belief systems?
The story moves pretty quickly and deals with love and support of family, family dysfunction, past secrets that have ruined familial relationships and a future that continues to bring strife and uncertainty. I love the characters – even the nasty, evil ones (reminds me of some of my relatives). Grey gives the reader something to hold on to; something to believe in; some hope that things will work out. The drama is believable, the pain is palpable, and the love jumps off of the pages and into your heart. When there is a break in the relationship that develops, you wonder if, and hope that things will be for the best – that it all works out in the end.
I‘m a hopeless romantic also, so this story is right up my alley. I enjoyed the book. I’ve read it twice since I received it, and I keep going back to it to reread sections. It was that good for me!
