Based on the book by Willie Morris, the gentle and funny My Dog Skip recalls young Willie growing up in a small Mississippi town during the second world war, and the special relationship he has with -- you guessed it -- his dog Skip. Muniz (from TV's "Malcom in the Middle") makes an especially appealing young hero, an outcast who learns to blossom with a little help from his canine friend. Skip, played by five different dogs, is absolutely adorable, and, for once, the adults aren't shortchanged. Lane, as Willie's mom, and Bacon, as his war-scarred father, each hit just the right note.
