Review

This one was a nice little surprise. Truly an artifact of a by-gone era, Navy Blue is sure to get your balls nice and blue, that's for sure. Ostensibly taking place in Manhattan and on a Navy destroyer that's just pulled in to port, this pre-condom spunkfest had me kicking back and watching it in its entirety - no pauses or fast-forwarding.

An early scene with Jack and George rutting about had me both cracking up and rubbing off. Their sequence (replete with tons of body hair, condomless fudge-packing and a lot of spilled spunk) is played out with Christmas carols (!) in the background. Totally obscene and totally hot. Keep an eye out for an amazing helicopter air-rub; I wanted to join the mile-high club right away after it.

There's a straight scene too, involving some muff-diving that - even though it only lasts for a few minutes - had me fidgeting. (Early 70s bush turns me off, what can I say?) The music is fucking hilarious, ranging from very "vintage early 70s" to Ravel's Bolero and the costumes and New York City locales are sure to stir up memories for those of you old enough to remember (not me - I'm a mid-90s "Sound Factory" child) and get you younger guys real curious and jealous of missing out on such a sleazy cum-filled time.

As with all films of the era, the overdubbing is horrendous, but that actually gives the flick (which was shot on film and has been restored quite nicely) even more appeal. The plot moves along just fine (dragging only ever so often) and the sex stays consistently hot, spunk-filled and sweaty, if a little "vanilla." The final scene is straight out of a mushy Hollywood tearjerker, and is the only drawback here.

But for collectors of classics and for fans of pre-condom fucking, this hot and kitschy award-winner from the Gay Film Institute is a certainly worth checking out.
