Review

Action-packed from beginning to end, Pistoleros is a modern Spaghetti Western with a Nordic twist. Frank Lowies is known to all the low-life denizens of Copenhagen as the toughest, meanest gangster in town. And now there is a rumor that right before he got tossed in the slammer, he stashed millions from the thwarted heist. The only clues to the whereabouts of the loot are a series of tattoos inked on a bunch of Frank’s ex-associates, but when word gets out, every gunslinger in the neighborhood takes to the hunt – and they’re shooting first and asking questions later! This cast of rogues is headed up by Frank’s sons, Sonny and Brian, who are joined by Ramirez (a greasyhaired Argentine who was in Frank’s gang). They’re up against the Russian Ivan and the Pakistanis Pucha and Shameer. And then there is Tuki, a sniveling junkyard proprietor, fence and gun dealer who happily arms everyone while working his own angle. Director Gonzalez has a blast, unfolding his story as a constantly changing urban legend narrated by a couple of the lesser players, and he peppers the proceedings with a spicy blend of comedy, slow-motion gun battles and good old-fashioned high noon showdowns.
