Born 10/17/1920 in Omaha Nebraska, died 7/23/1966.

"Monty" was one the most gorgeous leading men in Hollywood until a severe car accident in 1956 combined with drug and alcohol problems to cause a downward spiral. On the set of The Misfits, Marilyn Monroe said that Clift was "The only person I know who is in worse shape than I am."

Quentin Crisp

Born 12/25/1908 - Died 11/21/99, both in England. His ashes were sprinkled around his adopted home, Manhattan.

An out homosexual in the '20s, Crisp became a professional gay later in life, performing one-man shows to packed houses. The legendary film The Naked Civil Servant is Quentin Crisp's story.

Wilson Cruz

Born 12/27/73 in Brooklyn, NY.

At 19 Cruz came out to his parents, who threw him out of the house. This experience informed his first role as Ricky on the cancelled, but now recognized as brilliant, TV series, "My So-Called Life". Cruz has since starred in many films and TV series, and become quite an activist for queer youth.

He toured as a teen in the boy band 4Now, in which all the pretty boys actually played their own instruments. Charlie is one of the stars of the hit Here! cable TV series Dante's Cove. He is also a costar of Four Letter Word.

A child star Ms. Foster made over 50 TV and film appearances before she attended Yale. She was then nominated for an Oscar at age 14 portraying a teenage prostitute in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver. She has won two Academy Awards for her roles in The Silence of the Lambs and The Accused.

John Gielgud

Born 4/14/04 - Died 5/21/2000 in London, England.

Generally considered one of the greatest English actors ever, Gielgud officially came out of the closet at his final stage performance in 1988. Our favorite Gielgud performance is his wry comic turn as Jeremy Iron's father in Brideshead Revisited.

William Haines

William Haines

Born 1/2/1900 - Died 12/26/1973.

By 1925 Haines was a Hollywood leading man getting all the best roles. He lived openly with his lover Jimmy Shields. The press kept it a secret until he was arrested in a YMCA with a sailor. MGM gave Haines a choice, marry a woman or leave. Haines chose his love for Shields; they were together over 50 years until he died.

Neil Patrick Harris

Born 6/15/73 in Albuquerque, NM.

After his childhood success as the star of "Doogie Howser" (1989-1993), Harris has done a tremendous amount of stage, film and television work. Highlights include the current TV hit "How I Met Your Mother" and the comedy "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle".

After doing plenty of theater work, Harrison was cast as Justin in the cable hit "Queer as Folk". He's back in the theater again; it's clearly his love.

Born 11/17/25 - Died 10/2/85. Born in Winnetka, IL and died in Los Angeles of AIDS.

Rock was a movie star legend who had gay rumors swirling about through his whole career. It took AIDS for him to come out of the closet. He starred in some 75 films including our two favorites: Giant and All That Heaven Allows.

A teen idol, Tab Hunter officially came out in his autobiography "Tab Hunter Confidential". We know and love Hunter best for his roles in the camp classics Lust in the Dust and John Waters' Polyester.

Michael Jeter, a major character actor, never hid his sexuality and was cast frequently as eccentric or wimpy characters. We'd like to remember him for his role in The Fisher King and Miller's Crossing.

Starring as Brother Boy in the cult hit Sordid Lives, Leslie Jordan is perhaps best known in the straight world for his many appearances on Will & Grace. Jordan's quirky autobiographical film Lost in the Pershing Point Hotel tells us of his problems with addiction and hustlers.

Starring as George on the monster hit TV show "Grey's Anatomy", Knight was pushed into the spotlight when a fellow cast-member made a homophobic slur and Knight came out of the closet.

Lane came out publicly with this famous line, "I'm 40, single and I work a lot in the musical theatre. You do the math." Besides being a Broadway stage icon he's starred in dozens of films including The Birdcage and The Producers.

Born 11/2/61 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Primarily a singer, Ms. Lang has been awarded four Grammy awards. She has appeared in several films including Salmonberries and a documentary about her inspiration Remembering Patsy. Lang's activism is on two fronts: gay rights and respect for animals.

Rex began his role as Ari Gold's assistant on the hit HBO series "Entourage" at the beginning of the second season. His role in the show has grown gradually; there have been several shows that revolve around the gay assistant.

Born 6/13/26 in Mount Vernon, Ohio - Died 1/11/82 in Los Angeles of a heart attack after a life of drug and alcohol abuse.

Certainly one of the most flamboyant men in Hollywood, Paul never actually came out of the closet. While he was most well-known for his long run as the "Center Square" on "Hollywood Squares" we think he was most proud of Bye Bye Birdie.

Known as one of Canada's most prominent playwrights Daniel has written and starred in two excellent gay films: Wilby Wonderful and Whole New Thing.

Born 1/10/39 in New York City - Died 2/12/76 in West Hollywood at the hand of a murderer.

Co-starring with James Dean in the '50s iconic films Rebel without a Cause and Giant made Sal Mineo a star for his tragically brief life. While he dated women early in his career, he was only identified with men later on.

Matthew Montgomery

Matthew started out on stage in the 6th grade and he hasn't stopped performing since then. Certainly a busy man in the world of gay cinema, Matthew's career took off with a bang as he starred in the indie hit Gone, But Not Forgotten. He has also starred in Long-Term Relationship, Back Soon and Socket.

Born 2/6/1899 - Died 10/30/1968.

A major male romantic lead of the silent era, Navarro's career flickered with the advent of sound. It has long been rumored that he refused to enter into a lavender marriage so his MGM contract wasn't renewed in 1935. Navarro was murdered by a pair of Mormon brothers he hired for sex.
