Generally considered one of the greatest English actors ever, Gielgud officially came out of the closet at his final stage performance in 1988. Our favorite Gielgud performance is his wry comic turn as Jeremy Iron's father in Brideshead Revisited.
William Haines
Born 1/2/1900 - Died 12/26/1973.
By 1925 Haines was a Hollywood leading man getting all the best roles. He lived openly with his lover Jimmy Shields. The press kept it a secret until he was arrested in a YMCA with a sailor. MGM gave Haines a choice, marry a woman or leave. Haines chose his love for Shields; they were together over 50 years until he died.

After his childhood success as the star of "Doogie Howser" (1989-1993), Harris has done a tremendous amount of stage, film and television work. Highlights include the current TV hit "How I Met Your Mother" and the comedy "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle".

Rock was a movie star legend who had gay rumors swirling about through his whole career. It took AIDS for him to come out of the closet. He starred in some 75 films including our two favorites: Giant and All That Heaven Allows.

A teen idol, Tab Hunter officially came out in his autobiography "Tab Hunter Confidential". We know and love Hunter best for his roles in the camp classics Lust in the Dust and John Waters' Polyester.

Michael Jeter, a major character actor, never hid his sexuality and was cast frequently as eccentric or wimpy characters. We'd like to remember him for his role in The Fisher King and Miller's Crossing.

Primarily a singer, Ms. Lang has been awarded four Grammy awards. She has appeared in several films including Salmonberries and a documentary about her inspiration Remembering Patsy. Lang's activism is on two fronts: gay rights and respect for animals.

Certainly one of the most flamboyant men in Hollywood, Paul never actually came out of the closet. While he was most well-known for his long run as the "Center Square" on "Hollywood Squares" we think he was most proud of Bye Bye Birdie.

Co-starring with James Dean in the '50s iconic films Rebel without a Cause and Giant made Sal Mineo a star for his tragically brief life. While he dated women early in his career, he was only identified with men later on.

A major male romantic lead of the silent era, Navarro's career flickered with the advent of sound. It has long been rumored that he refused to enter into a lavender marriage so his MGM contract wasn't renewed in 1935. Navarro was murdered by a pair of Mormon brothers he hired for sex.
