Generally amiable, yet filled with gay stereotypes, this Australian film stars Paul Hogan of Crocodile Dundee as a straight man who pretends to be gay to get tax benefits. In this mythical Australia that doesn't yet exist if a gay couple declares themselves a couple and get certified as such, they accrue significant tax advantages. So anyway these two buddies declare themselves gay to save tax dollars. To learn how to be gay they consult the local flaming hairdresser, who turns out to be secretly straight. They learn how to mince and wiggle their hips, they say fabulous whenever needed. To get real lessons the two men decide to take a trip to Sydney to the bars. This is where the film really gets on track as the two buddies make new gay friends and learn what being gay is truly about. Abounding with lessons and mincing men, Strange Bedfellows is a sweet, flawed addition to the "sort-of gay" movie genre.
