I went to my mailbox today and there was a very small package with a wonderful book inside about how to be a proper gay man (which does mean that I am not already but we all need all the help we can get). This little book is an absolute pleasure and it also tells you what you need to know in almost every situation from behaving in a gay bar to managing finances to friendship and proper gym behavior. You will learn the proper way to use and say the words, “please” and “thank you” and why these words are too important not to be used.You should be aware that when someone picks you up at the gym, it is polite “behavior to give out your number and meet at a later date in a different place”. Think about that. Furthermore “In a Polite Social Society, a young man refrains from wearing spandex shorts in public unless he is spinning on a bicycle”…. I bet you did not know that.The book is not tongue in cheek as much as it is honest and true and “light-hearted” and if you reflect upon what is written here, you will be just fine and understand Rosenberg’s resoning. Proper attire is important as is grooming. There are even hints on the correct way to use a cell phone and the guidelines for gossip. Rosenberg even includes a glossary with wonderful definitions of words such as “cunt”, “ego” and “manscaping” and “fourgy” (that’s a new one isn’t it)?
It is amazing how much is here in this little book and it is just the right size to stick in your pocket and carry all so that you can be ready for any occasion. Rosenberg thells us that “a proper gay man would prefer to be a model citixzen than a fashion mode” and that might be a new thought for some. This little book has answers for everything we need to know and I recommend it totally.
