Claude Chabrol (June 24, 1930—September 12, 2010).

With Truffaut, Godard, Rhomer, and Rivette, The French New Wave revolutionized the way we see movies today. In this engrossing documentary, shot in the final years of life, we go deep into the mind of Chabrol, the legendary director many call the French Hitchcock and The Balzac of Cinema.

Like in his films, Chabrol discusses his work amongst delicioius meals with friends, ex-wives, actors. Chabrol also speaks to us from the darkness of an isolated room. We see and hear and hear it all from the mouth of the master—his choices, his mistakes, what he has learned in his illustrious career. Since 1958, he made almost a film a year. His works have been constantly remade in Hollywood. This film is the last words from Chabrol, his last stamp in his unmatched cinematic ouvre.
