Review

S.E. Hinton's best-selling teen novel about kids from the wrong side of the tracks in the early 1960s is transformed into a stylish and visually rich film by director Coppola. The cast is interesting to watch - it includes several well-knowns before they hit it big.

While not gay-themed, the cast is seen in various states of undress (notably a shower scene with Rob Lowe, and Matt Dillon in a prolonged in-his-boxers shot), and there's a purveying sense of homoeroticism throughout. The cast has never looked so good, especially Cruise; he bulked up considerably to play one of the rough-n-tumble "greasers." Guess the guy has to keep his Top Gun polished somehow.
