Synopsis

We love this riveting thriller, adapted from one of a series of popular gay mystery novels by Richard Stevenson! Gay private eye Donald Strachey becomes embroiled in scandal and murder.

You are hereby invited to figure out "whodunit" when watching Third Man Out, a gay murder mystery featuring P.I. Donald Strachey played by out actor Chad Allen ("Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman") The series of books written by Richard Stevenson, are now classics of the gay mystery genre, this is the first in an anticipated series of adaptations. All set in the Albany region, the books feature a gay male couple, Donald (Allen,) the private investigator and his lover Ronnie (Carey,) a legislative aide.

Strachey and his lover are in the midst of restoring their elegant Albany row house when Donald gets offered a much-needed, but distasteful job. This story opens as Donald has been hired to investigate attacks on an activist who specializes in "outing” prominent politicians, an activity our hero finds quite nasty. The activist John Rutka is played by Jack Wetherall, familiar to "Queer as Folk" fans as Vic Grassi, Michael's uncle. Strachey abandons his new duty when he feels that Rutka is staging the threats against him. When Rutka turns up dead, Strachey is faced with an extensive list of enemies all with enough motive to kill.

Featuring a juicy cameo by porn star Matthew Rush, a handsome gay male couple and a murder most foul, this is one film you won't want to miss.

When is a Gay Film Not a Gay Film?

I have just finished watching this and the second Strachey films and the best thing about them? ... I didn't feel like I was watching a gay film.

Yes, it has a gay plot. It has gay characters. It has hot men and shirtless scenes ... but never once did these films have that self-conscious "wink wink" feel to them.

I hope I am getting my point across. It's like Don Strachey is not a "gay private eye" he's a private eye who is gay. His lover is not a "gay legislative assistant" he's a legislative assistant who is gay. Very subtle.

Maybe its because they gone the extra effort of NOT including stereotypes ... the flamer, the queen, the leather guy, yada yada.

Great films all around. Now get the the four-pack in blueray and I'll be happy.

I have seen thousands of films of this genera from the '30s to the present time. This picture not only captured my attention, but it piqued my curiosity totally. This flix had more twists and turns than a Alfred Hitchcock or Agatha Christie film. It keeps the audience on its collective toes, keeping up with the action. The fact that the main character is gay only adds to the realism of the movie. You need to watch this film with the person you love, as it has a lot to do with the emotion of love. This is just one pitcture in a series, but you should consider collecting it as an addition. REVENGE CAN BE MORE COMPLEX AND COMPLICATED, EVEN THAN LIFE! NJMJr!

this was a really good movie and loved Chad Allen. The movie was not one of those B rated movie, it was well directed and well acted. especaly with the nice Butt shot of Chad Allen and with his shirt off. I do recomond this movie it was good from start to finish.... Bookem Chad...
