Some of you may not know it but there was a time not so long ago when every gay themed film had a drag queen or a character with AIDS or a bitchy nelly guy or a sad ending or the characters were flamboyant, catty, trite and shallow, Now we all know that gay people, like al people, can be all these things (and never tire of it). In reality gay people are like people everywhere and most of us are indistinguishable form everyone else. Perhaps that is why I feel so fondly for “Trick” (New Line Home Video). The central characters are cute young men and their meeting—which is the subject of the movie—is a very funny parody of what happens when a tryst becomes a one night stand.
Christian Campbell prays Gabriel, a shy composer wanna be has dimples that say. Marc is a student who supplements his income by go go dancing has a body to die for. They meet and of course, want to have sex. Here in this uplifting and life affirming look at what it is to be young and gay and falling in love. It is delightful and unpretentious and a romantic comedy which uses all of the clichés and even though none of it new, when it is all put together it is just good fun. It is a comedy of errors, of frustration. Our guys want each other but they just can’t seem to get it together. Everything seems to be against them. This is a small but very entertaining film that pulls at emotions and it is a delight.
There is no sex, no nudity. The way that Gabriel and Mark notice each other at a club and then on the subway is beautiful in its tenderness. Gay romantic comedies are a hard call—they either make it or they don’t. “Trick” makes it. Two men try to have a one night stand and fate interferes. They then are allowed to get to know each other before actually having sex. It seemed strange that the guys could not find a place to have sex in New York City but I played along and I am glad that I did. It turned out to be romantic and very funny. It is just a sweet movie. Greenwich Village looks good in the movies and is the ideal background for the movie. What is so nice it that there is no mention of the things that hurt us in the movie. There are no homophobes, the threat of AIDS does not float above her heads and there is no coming out story. Instead we have two great good looking guys who want to have sex and just can’t seem to get it on. It is just a small story but so well done that every moment is enjoyable.

If you are looking for light entertainment with a gay twist then this is the movie for you. You don’t have to think, you just sit back and relax and enjoy.

Trick is a pleasant surprise as far as gay cinema goes. Even the straight leads (Christian Cambell & J.P. Pitock) are convincing as two gay men looking for a place to consumate their desire for each other. New York provides the perfect back drop for this wonderful film. Tori Spelling gives an excellent performance as a fag hag trying to get a big break in the theater. This film is a must have for every gay cinemaphile.

This movie was one of the first of this genre which I decided to own, because I felt (still do) that it is a classic. Both lead male characters were sexyascanbe hot! I would have like to have seen them make-out more, although, I thoroughly enjoyed THE kissing scene between the two! What makes this movie special is the chemistry amongst the cast members. Tori Spelling (character?) seemed a tad bit annoying, but I pressume that was the intention of the director. "Miss (FAABUULUSS) Coco Peru gave a stellar performance and, Lorri Bagley and Kevin Chamberlin were hysterically funny. One of my favorites along with The Trip and Coffee Date...all great date movies, whether you're gay, bi, str8 (friendly), etc....

A truly wonderful story of love in the Big Apple between two completely dissimilar gay men as possible to find. Such is human nature, yet love always finds a way! A definite addition to yor Gay Cinema Collection. Exquisite!!! Take your lover to this one!!

yes, J.P.Pitoc is hot, and a pretty well assembled plots, but I had hope more, I think "All Over a Guy" is a little bit better, "Trick" can be better, but not so satisfied, there is actually one moment I am going to be touched.

Dont think me wrong, I definitely not regret ordering this DVD. But, if you want to be completely touched, maybe "Beautiful thing" is the best.

Finally, this is not a comedy, be aware. and I dont think any comedy can describe gay life accurately.
