From the director of I've Heard the Mermaids Singing this refreshingly liberating tale of lesbian love stars Camille (Bussières) is a Christian academician romantically involved with Martin (Czerny), a nice enough fellow teacher more interested in advancement than romance. Camille's repressed emotions and desire for true love come to the surface after she meets flamboyant circus performer Petra (Crawford). Despite being diametrical opposites, the two are attracted to each other. Chock full of romance, beautiful camera-work and sprinkled with magic, the handling of the relationship is both exciting and hopeful, conditions that are much too rare in lesbian cinema.

A beautifully done film with truly sensual and lovely scenery, music and women. The academic/ circus atmospheres just adds to the delight of the budding romance, which is realistic, plausible and gives you the feeling that it's a winner. The film is fully dimensional without overwhelming the viewer. Although both women have full and rich lives, the connection between them only proves to add to their lives. The delicate break from the conventional is done neaty and without burdening the reason we want lesbian films; to watch a love story between desireable women.
